Jisoo Hwang is an Associate Professor of Economics at Seoul National University. Her research fields are labor and family economics, with a focus on low fertility, gender gaps in labor markets, and how policies and life events shape individuals’ careers, family formation, and health.
She currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Asian and Australasian Society of Labour Economics (AASLE) and has been invited as a plenary speaker at the 2025 Econometric Society World Congress. In 2020, Hwang received the Korean Economy Research Award for her work on the transition of son preference.
Hwang is a Research Fellow at the Rockwool Foundation Berlin and at the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) in Korea. She is the co-PI of the Health-Family-Labor Economics Research Team.
She earned her Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University and a B.A. in Economics from Seoul National University.
